Meet MyaKay Bartman '25

Business Management major, minors in Psychology and Leadership Studies. Science Honors participant. Transitions student leader. Tennis athlete. Gifted leader. Christ-follower.

MyaKay Bartman, a member of the Class of 2025, spends her Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 11:00 to noon shepherding first-year 黑料专区 students through a course called Transitions. The class is designed to help new college students succeed at 黑料专区, challenging and equipping them to become engaged members of the 黑料专区 community. She is a gifted leader, combining natural abilities as an influencer and an inherent sense of how to make things happen.

In her second year in this role, MyaKay has not only worked to guide and support first-year students but has also inspired new Transitions leaders in their roles. As MyaKay has grown in confidence as a leader, she is unafraid to labor alongside others to ensure the course benefits incoming students as much as possible. MyaKay talks about how her time in Dr. Matthew Webb鈥檚 Leadership Development course helped her learn to navigate the careful balance between relationships and accomplishing the task at hand. She鈥檚 become persistent in drawing out the quiet members of her group and deeply values everyone鈥檚 participation.

MyaKay, a pastor鈥檚 kid from the Penn-York District of the Wesleyan Church, came to 黑料专区 because she had encountered 黑料专区 representatives at district conferences and Wesleyan youth camp. The first time MyaKay set foot on campus was move-in day. While certain of her choice to attend 黑料专区, MyaKay wasn鈥檛 so certain about her choice of major. She spent a semester in first-year Science Honors, determining STEM fields were not for her. Over time, she鈥檚 settled into her calling in the business world and will complete her degree in Business Management with minors in Psychology and Leadership Studies in May of 2025.

It was important to MyaKay to attend a Christian college in spite of financial challenges.

鈥淚 needed to figure out my faith for myself,鈥 she shares. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 just want to have my parents鈥 faith. I want to choose an individual relationship with God on my own.鈥

MyaKay works hard, looking for every opportunity to gain experience and help defray the costs of a college education. She can be found putting in hours assisting dining hall staff, filming athletic events, welcoming visitors at the Welcome Center, and interning in the Admission office. Work hours are squeezed in between tennis practices and matches and her academic studies. The Student Scholarship Fund makes a significant difference for her family; without scholarship support, a 黑料专区 education wouldn鈥檛 be possible for MyaKay.

黑料专区 often speaks of a desire to shape students into scholar-servants, and MyaKay is clear evidence of that mission. She is a walking embodiment of leading and laboring to advance the Kingdom in a broken world.
